Research Panel for Education and Research Within the Centre

ForskningsavdelningarThis Panel is headed by Professor Jan Andersson, Jönköping international business school.

The Panel was formed at the end of 2004. Briefly, its purpose is to help ensure:

  • that closer contact is established between the University´and law firms (Advokatvännerna especially) as well as other institutional law producers, such as courts, legislators, corporate lawyers, prosecution authorities etc., so as to facilitate and bring about research and researcher recruitment in each subject field among potential practitioner-researchers,
  • that in particular younger researchers at universities – university researchers – so desiring can make contact with the practice of law and perhaps also be given the opportunity of gaining practical experience of benefit to their research tasks, and
  • that co-operation is promoted between practitioners and education at Stockholm University in the sense of encouraging and institutionalising participation by the former in the latter.

The Research Panel held two meetings in the spring/summer of 2005, to discuss its future membership and tasks, resolving partly as follows:

The Research Panel is to open talks with the executive management of a number of law offices with a view to encouraging and supporting individual lawyers’ writing in their own offices. An attractive proposal is to be framed and presented to this end, with both law office and individual benefiting from the production of research.

The Research Panel plans to present a conspectus of what it can offer, over and above tutoring and assistance in the choice of subject, to a practitioner wishing to engage in research. Support should be available to practitioners at both individual and group levels. The Research Panel plans to investigate whether articles, essays etc. can be made to carry further education credits for lawyers.

The Research Panel is to investigate the possibility of backing a specialised course at the University, e.g. in company law.
