The Council

OrganisationThe Council deals with general scholarly issues within the framework of the Centre, e.g. to ensure that the Centre’s activities are when necessary conducted in partnership with the community at large and on a basis of co-operation between different legal and other disciplines, and also that they address urgent issues of a legal nature.

The members of the Council represent various legal disciplines and various fields of legal practice. They possess a high level of scholarly competence or other legal competence in their several fields.

The Council includes the members of the Board of Directors and the Special Committee, the Director and the heads of the Research Panels. Other Council members are appointed by the Board of Directors.

The Council has held the following meetings:

  • An inaugural meeting, attended by Stockholm University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gustaf Lindencrona, took place on 15th January 2002.
  • At the second meeting of the Council, on 27th May 2002, Stefan Lindskog, LL. D., delivered a lecture entitled “The Supreme Court and commercial law.” The lecture has been published in JT 2002-03, pp. 68 ff.
  • At the third meeting of the Council on 4th November 2002, Professor Lars Heuman gave a lecture entitled “Depth and Breadth: some examples of legal argumentation in the field of commercial law.” The lecture has been published in JT 2002-03, p. 522 ff.
  • In conjunction with the Council’s fourth meeting on 19th May 2003, Professor Ulf Bernitz gave a lecture entitled “The Development of Private Law Legislation: the Future European Perspective – Passive Adjustment or Active Influence?”.
  • At the fifth meeting of the Council on 2nd December 2002, Professor Suzanne Wennberg gave a lecture entitled “Are Penal Sanctions an Appropriate Method to Secure Compliance With Commercial Law?” The lecture has been published in JT No. 3 2003–04, pp. 599 ff.
  • At the sixth meeting of the Council, on 11th May 2004, Chancellor of Justice Göran Lambertz gave a lecture entitled “The Future of State Liability”. The lecture has been published in JT No. 1 2004–05 pp. 3 ff.
  • At the sixth meeting of the Council, on 7th December 2004, Attorney-at-law Axel Calissendorff gave a lecture entitled “Measures to combat Money-Laundering – are lawyers becoming the long arm of the police?” The lecture has been published in JT No. 3 2004–05, pp. 553 ff.
  • At the eighth meeting of the Council, on 16th January 2006, Gunnar Nord, Hon. LL. D., gave a lecture entitled “Stock Market Law and Corporate Governance – Report from a quarter-century.”
  • The ninth meeting of the Council took place on 15th January 2007. Eric M. Runesson, LL.D., Associate Professor, Attorney-at-law, gave a lecture entitled “Corporate Governance disputes in the perspective of legal economics” and Professor Jesper Lau Hansen, Copenhagen University, spoke on the subject of´Nordic co-operation – some thoughts for the future”.
  • The tenth meeting of the Council took place on 11th February 2008. Professor Jan Kleineman lectured on the subject of “Is the European Convention transforming Swedish private law?” and Under-Secretary of State H. G. Wessberg spoke on the subject of “The legislative process”.
